Inhabit libraries

A library is a focal point, a sacred place to a community; and its sacredness is its accessibility, its publicness. Ursula K. Le Guin, My libraries, 1997

If we think about our actions as cultural agents, very rarely we consider the Institutions as a transforming element. The education we have received has focused on turning us into passive subjects instead of individuals that question the functioning and work of places like the archive, the library on the museum. This workshop plans to re-think our relation with the culture. Considering the library as knowledge —and power— generating place, we will discuss artistic practices and texts, as well as we will plan actions to reclaim the function of these places as public areas to transform.

con_textos consists of a series of non-regulated training workshops focused on the idea of editing, its literal meaning and its relation to the artistic practices.

Eduardo García Nieto (Miranda de Ebro, Burgos, 1974) is a cultural worker who has developed his works in curation and educative projects. His investigations have focused on the politic meaning of the invisible (CONCEALFROMYOUREYES project- La conservera Ceutí, Artium, La Sonrisa de la Ballesta y Bastero) and the role of the poetics in the contemporary artistic practices (El ciclo LESS POETRY en Artium o Vacío Perfecto en MUSAC). His educative practices lead him to be the responsible for the Education Department at the Cultural Centre Montehermoso Kulturunea, where he contemplated, among other actions, the Ayer y Hoy exhibition, considering a dialogue between the archive, the city groups and the contemporary artists.
