Corazón y realidad [Heart and Reality] is a portrait, told in the first person singular, of the art world in a city of the new millennium that turns out to be Buenos Aires. The appearance of magazines, parties, meeting places and publishing companies run by artists like ramona, Proyecto Venus and Eloísa Cartonera; the repercussions of the crisis of December 2001; the dreams of grandeur and the outlines of a new institutional infrastructure that came with the subsequent economic recovery; the feelings of guilt, euphoria and depression. With its combination of exhaustive research and autobiographical murmuring (from one of the most active critics of the time and place), this narrative made up of eight inspiring essays tells the bifurcated history of Argentinian art with its program of international updating, analyses the re-emergence of political art and professionalization as rhetoric, and speaks of biennial hearts… This book provides a mirror where it is possible to reflect and question many other stories, many other contexts and cities, in a half-lit narrative in which one can easily recognise oneself.

Claudio M. Iglesias (Buenos Aires, 1982) is an art critic and translator.  His texts have appeared in newspapers and specialised magazines like Página/12 (Buenos Aires), A*Desk (Barcelona), La Tempestad (Mexico City), Flash Art (Milan - New York), amongst other publications. He also edited Antología del decadentismo francés (Anthology of the French Decadent Movement) (Caja negra, Buenos Aires, 2008), and has translated authors like Rachilde, Joris-Karl Huysmans and Chris Kraus.
